Biography
Martine Demal, sculptor
Like a femme de lettres I write …
Whatever the material it serves my words.
The long and demanding task of creating a bronze and its patina allows me to finalise and magnify my statements.
I remain true to this ancient technique that bears every trace, inscribes every mark from gesture and tool.
No element more noble than bronze for prolonging these beginnings.
This step is a highlight of my journey that lasts as long as possible, as long as emotions guide my hands and the will to share burns bright.
Seeking out essence in writing that is bold and liberated.
Rhythm, sigh, pieces of life, selected pieces, heavy and light, questions-answers, desire for power and density bringing together stability and momentum: what an inner adventure!
Every new sculpture is a mere continuation of writing signs in a necessary order.
Mysterious alchemy giving life to a sentence, a punctuation mark, a paragraph … sculpting a text.
… moving around the sculptures, making them one’s own … dialogue is created, the artwork exists.
Martine Demal, sculptor
